A 'NSW Security Licence Renewal Application' form showing your licence number, expiry date, licence class and other details is mailed to you around eight weeks before your licence is due to expire. Once you have received your renewal form, you have the option of renewing your licence online. Renewing your WA driver's licence
WA driver's licences will expire after one or five years, depending on the licence fee that you paid. Your photograph and signature will also need to be updated every 10 years.
When your licence is due to expire, the Department of Transport will send you a renewal notice by post or you can elect to receive your notice electronically. This notice will include important information such as:
- the expiry date; and,
- whether a photograph and/or signature is required.
You can renew your licence as early as six months before the expiry date.

Learner's permits
Learner's permits cannot be renewed.
If your permit expires you will need to apply for a new learner's permit.
Step 1: Prepare proof of identity (if required)
Your driver's licence renewal notice will state whether a new photograph and signature is required.
If your photograph and signature are required, you will need to provide primary and secondary proof of identity when you have your picture taken. At least one document produced must have your signature.
If you have changed your name you will need to provide relevant documentation, such as:
- Change of name certificate.
- Divorce papers.
- Licence to change name.
- Marriage certificate.

Step 2: Get your picture taken (if required)
If a new photograph is required, you will need to have your picture taken at a Photopoint location (Australia Post) or a Driver and Vehicle Services centre or regional agent or submit a photo kit by post.

Step 3: Pay the renewal fee
If your driver's licence has no provisional restrictions or other conditions, you may renew the licence for 1 or 5 years by paying the licence renewal fee.
The renewal fee can be paid:
- Using our online payment system
- BPAY®.
- By post.
- In person, at a Driver and Vehicle Services centre, regional agent or photopoint location
Note: You will need to use option 4 if a photograph and signature are required.

Driver licence renewal fees
If you have a medical condition or occupational endorsement on your driver's licence which requires the Department of Transport to set a driver's licence renewal period other than the standard 1 to 5 years, then the fees you are required to pay may differ from the ones stated below.
